Barbara and Tony introduction - A major driving force in our lives has been a commitment to our common and diverse humanity. Part of that is to do with the duty of respect and care for others. Another part is the practice of compassion and non-violence. We came to this, at one level, through the Christian Church and our interpretation of the life and teaching of the Jesus of the Gospels. Other people reach compatible life-values by different routes – cultural, religious, political. We all need to find new ways to persuade people to eschew violence. We all need to support those individuals, groups and institutions that work for justice and peace.
Just to prove that we have moved after 25 years. Here we are (photo by son Adam) - daughter Sian and us around our long-lasting white dining table!
And a poem by Tony: ‘if I could, I would.’
If I could, I would choose the extremes
Of kindness, caring, imagination -
I would switch off the noise
From anxieties, conflict, oppression, pain,
I would let go of all the unease and strangeness -
If I could, I would put a stop to violence.
